The Nutrient Management Program Advisor works with producers to develop plans to balance nutrient application rates with plant nutrient requirements, thereby protecting water quality and enhancing farm profitability.
The Nutrient Management Program, a cooperative effort between the University of Maryland Extension and the Maryland Department of Agriculture, includes soil and manure testing, development of realistic crop yield goals, Pre-Sidedress Nitrate Tests (PSNT) for Corn, and required equipment calibration.
Completed Nutrient Management Plans contain soil and manure test results, maps of land covered by the plan, fertilizer and manure recommendations for each field, and suggestions on how and when the plan is to be updated. The Maryland Department of Agriculture has sole responsibility for Nutrient Program Enforcement.
