Maryland Pumpkin Trials

Maryland Pumpkin Trials

The Maryland State Pumpkin Trials have been conducted at the Wye Research and Education Center in Queenstown, MD for over 10 years and have been of great benefit to many growers, however, producers in Central and Western Maryland have  felt with the diversity of climate and soils in Maryland this work should be expanded to two locations. We have continued the work at the research and education center in Queen Anne's County on the eastern shore, and in 2008 we added a site at the Western Maryland Research and Education Center in Washington County which is in the north central part of the State. Both sites are set up the same with the same varieties being grown at both sites. Seed companies nominated varieties and several popular varieties were added so growers could compare commonly grown varieties with the newer varieties under the same growing conditions.
